Who am I

I am Hayden Hares, a freshman at St. Norbert College studying elementary education. I have always wanted to do something to help people better themselves; Which is why my sister, a teacher, played such an important part in my life. In my sophomore year, I took a class called “Peer2Peer” and was able to help teach middle school students. This helped pave my way to become an educator and I began to fall in love with teaching over my junior and senior years with this class.

Over the past 3 years, the experiences and relationships I built with the students and the teachers are some things that I will never take for granted. While still in high school I had other things to do like extracurricular activities, homework, etc. but I always found time to reflect on how lucky I was to be able to experience this and realized that being a teacher wouldn’t even feel like a job but more so a place to learn and grow. Just because I wasn’t the student, didn’t mean that I was the only one teaching. The students I had taught me so much more than I could ever teach them and helped me realize this is a path that I want to go down.

I am very excited for my future but will always be grateful for my past since it is what has taken me to this point and has allowed me to be in this situation. If it wasn’t for my sister or the class I don’t think I would’ve ever realized my love and passion for teaching and probably would’ve gone into a boring 9-5 job. Now I will always look forward to going to my job instead of dreading waking up for it.
